National Energy Action Plan of Germany

The development of renewable energies is a key element of Germany's energy strategy and is to be continued in the future. In the long term, the majority of energy supply is to be covered by renewable energies.

Germany renewable energy 2020 targets:

  • Overall target: 18% of share of energy generated from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption;
  • Heating and Cooling: 15.5% of demand met by renewable energy sources;
  • Electricity: 37% of electricity demand met by electricity generated from renewable energy sources;
  • Transport: 13% of energy demand met by renewable energy sources.

The measures and instruments that are necessary to achieve the national target of 18 % renewable energies by 2020 have basically already been established. All instruments and measures, however, will continue to be constantly evaluated and developed if necessary.
